Gratitude for Getting Things Done
I am expressing my gratitude for crossing things off my list while I am at home recovering from surgery. Later today I will go for my post-surgery check-up to see how I am doing!
I found that I slept more than I thought I would and thus, did not get as much done as I thought. Do you find yourself putting off today’s tasks until the last minute? Maybe you’re waiting for the right mood to strike. Perhaps you’re afraid of failure, or find the work stressful or boring.

When you feel lazy, remind yourself of what you truly want. Dream about it. See it clearly in your mind’s eye. Feel the elation and satisfaction that comes from bringing these dreams to fruition.

- Avoid waiting for the right “mood.”
- Remember that procrastination can lead to depression.
- Avoid allowing fear of failure to overwhelm you.
- Do the “boring” tasks first.
- Take ginseng every day.
- Remind yourself of how completing your tasks contribute to reaching your goals.
- Avoid packing too much into your to-do list for any given day.
- Refrain from assuaging your guilt by doing minor tasks instead of doing the major ones.
- Focus on one task at a time so you don’t scatter your energies.
- Shake yourself out of your false sense of security (that you have plenty of time to start it later) and tackle that task now!
Follow these tips and you’ll no longer have to watch others reach the finish line before you. You’ll feel a sense of great accomplishment, and before you know it, your bigger goals will no longer just be dreams; you’ll have achieved them!

I thought you might appreciate getting some input from a faithful reader of your daily “ällaboutgratitute” column.
There is nothing worse then Unexpressed Gratitude. The whole reason for saying thank you is to let the giver know how much you appreciate something he or she has done for you. As the author G.B. Stern said “Silent Gratitude is not much use to anyone”
Not expressing your gratitude is like gift wrapping a present and then not giving it to anyone. Especially as we celebrate Thanksgiving this week let us reflect on how much we have to be thankful for and make an special effort to always express our gratitude.

I think you could write a whole post for each of these tips, Paul! They’re really useful.
I’d also add my own experience that comparing how you feel at the end of a productive day vs. the end of a procrastinating day is an excellent motivator. When I’ve put my heart into my writing and also completed most of my to-do list, I feel completely ready to relax and enjoy my family at night.

Great point, Amity! We always feel better when we can tick things off as completed! That is a great motivator and a great cycle to get into the habit of doing – more and more will get done!
Nothing feels as good as looking at your todo list at the end of the day and seeing everything checked!! When feeling a bit sluggish, I recall that feeling to motivate myself! 🙂
