Hi Paul, I have been listening to Wayne Dyer read his audiobook “I Can See Clearly Now”.
This quote comes from Chapter 17 of that book. Wayne is reflecting back fifty years to when he was a 22-year-old student in a university 102-level English class taught by a grad student. This is the only class in his university transcript that Wayne received a D mark for his work. Not because his work was poor or wrong, but because he had created an adversarial attitude between himself and the instructor. At that point, he was letting his ego get in the way of his ultimate goals.
Wayne advises that it’s very important when talking to people in authority like a police officer or boss.

I did not know the origins of this – thanks, Doug!
