Your Gratitude Burst – 2010 09 22

“The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you.”

– John E. Southard

I feel badly. It still pains me to think about the bad feelings I had towards someone years ago. I was angry at this person. Once upon a time, I let someone borrow money from me. I had the expectation that it would be paid back – after all – that is what I was told would happen.

But it didn’t. So I got mad. I eliminated this person from my life. And it caused me to feel horribly.

Then one day, I decided to just forgive the debt; I did not depend on the money for any support. I was not desperate for the money. I was holding onto the discontent because of principal. Once I forgave the debt, I forgave the person.

It took some time, but I eventually got over it. And today, I feel a lot better about it.

It certainly feels better to even the score with someone who does good by you than to get back for revenge or spiteful purposes.

After all, don’t you feel better doing good than doing bad?

Be Well.
Paul.
